KAWARTHA LAKES - Later this summer, the granddaughter of Jacques Cousteau will grace Gamiing Nature Centre to share wisdom and advocate the need for conservation and sustainable management of water.
The centre, situated between Lindsay and Bobcaygeon, will host "RBC's evening with Alexandra Cousteau" on Friday, Aug. 24.
The event was announced on Thursday, June 21 by organizer Andre Lafreniere.
Lafreniere said 1,000 tickets will be sold beginning July 1 for $65 at all 17 library locations within the municipality and also online at www.gamiing.org.
Mieke Schipper, executive director of Gamiing, said she was extremely excited for the event and gushed about how smooth the process had been with the help of RBC.
"I was totally amazed at how easy it is," Schipper said.
The event will take place at Gamiing, which is located at 1884 Pigeon Lake Road.
Lafreniere said Cousteau would speak on site under a tent that will seat the 1,000 attendees.
Following in the footsteps of her grandfather and father Phillipe Costeau Sr., Alexandra was selected by National Geographic as an emerging explorer for the class of 2008.
According to organizers, Alexandra joined her parents in Easter Island for her first expedition at just four months of age.
By the age of three, she had toured Africa, crossing across Egypt, Tunisia, Uganda and Kenya in the arms of her parents.
In 2008, she established the Blue Legacy organization to continue her family's work in protecting the Earth's oceans.
