Local runners fare well

Sunday's 31st annual Lindsay Milk Run saw 537 runners take to local streets.

The new route didn't slow the 10-kilometre participants down. Peterborough residents swept the 10K with Jamie Switzer taking first place in a time of 32:56 (minutes), followed by Darl Sutherland in second with a time of 35:20 and Michael Nevills placing third finishing in 35:49.

Lisa Avery from Orillia took first place in the Women's 10K in a time of 36:22, followed by Rachel Hannah from Barrie completing the course in 39:30 Lindsay resident Erin Ready took third place with a time of 41:31.

In the 5K run two new course records were set in both the men's and women's divisions. Steve Hosier of Lindsay finished first in a time of 15:33 followed closely by Luke Irwin from Uxbridge at 15:46, both smashing the 2008 course record of 15:51.

Jordan Bierema, also from Uxbridge, took third place with a time of 16:12.

In the women's division, Dominika Jamnicky of Port Hope came in first with a new course record time of 18:38. The former course record holder, Cecilia O'Neill, finished in second place with a time of 19:36 and in third place was Taralynn Ray of Omemee.

In the team competition, Runners Life was the fastest 10K team and included members Jamie Switzer, Deb Parberry, Kasey Melanson, Cynthia Thomson, John Menzies, Mike Melanson, Terry Mulholland and Anne Cavanagh.

Members of the Emerald Tower Runaways Michael Nevills, Monique Kuyvenhover, Kevin Firth, Heather Marleau, Jim Douglas and Kevin Watson took second place followed in third by the professional firefighters Andrew Stewart, Brian Junkin, Brian Beukeboom and Kevin Ryan.

In the 5K team competition D1 Talent took first place with members Steve Prefontaine, Ryan Hawkrigg, Sebie O'Neill, Dominika Janmicky and Nici O'Neill. Second place went to the Kawartha Lakes Sun Rise Runners Cecilia O'Neill, Adam Bent, George Pineau and Jessica Steffler. McCaskill's Mill P. S. took third place and included members Meghan MacTavish, Jamie Gratrix, Becky Gratrix, Brayden Barton, Roger Jenkins, Alicia Heatherington, Paul Heatherington and Lisa Heatherington.
