Three guinea pigs showing signs of serious neglect were found in a cage at the back door of the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes (HSKL) Wednesday morning, the society said.

It said the animals were encased with feces, and the cage was in a filthy state, with four dirty syringes found in it.

"This is one of the worst cases I have ever seen with guinea pigs," animal care worker and OSPCA agent Donna Ludgate stated in the press release.

"It's very clear that they were severely neglected, not cared for or fed properly. Who ever owned them did the right thing of bringing them here to us," Ludgate said.

The HSKL said it would like the owners to come forward. If anyone has more information, please call the HSKL at (705) 878-4618.
