OMEMEE-With the success of her business Your Fitness Training, Cara Mitchell has recently gone online with a new website.
People often don't have the time to make a phone call to get information about the fitness classes and events, she said, so now she is making it more convenient by providing information at www.yourfitnesstraining.ca.
Mitchell holds fitness classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at Lady Eaton Elementary School on James Street in Omemee. She started her business in May of 2008, with one class and eight participants.
She has expanded to a total of four to seven classes over the three nights. They include registered spaces for the eight-week sessions and drop-in openings.
Classes range from yoga to cardio- based with choreography.
Mitchell said she makes certain different levels of ability are accommodated. "I give options and modifications to suit from beginner to avid."
People thinking of joining are welcome to watch a class for ten to fifteen minutes to get an idea of what it's about, she said.
"We're mostly trying to have fun and socialize."
Some classes are not open for drop-in so it's a good idea to check on the website ahead of time. For example, the boot camps are for registered participants. Mitchell ran the first one this past May to mark the company's first anniversary and did another in the fall.
New in January will be an indoor boot camp in the school's gym using a stability ball. According to the website: "This boot camp provides a total body workout that combines cardio, circuit training, core strengthening & body sculpting techniques in a high intensity fitness program."
Mitchell said her clients are mostly women, but everyone is welcome. The age range is from 14 to the 60s, depending on the style of the class. The main core of clients are in their 30s to 50s, she said.
"It's when they have time in their lives to do something for themselves," she said.
Mitchell worked in the fitness industry full-time for 10 years. She received her training at the University of Guelph and returned to her hometown of Omemee with her husband, who also grew up in the area.
After her third child was born, she started Your Fitness on a part-time basis.
The camaraderie of her clients has extended to eight of them completing a 21 kilometre marathon in Niagara a few weeks ago. Mitchell said some of them will also go on the five kilometre Toronto Women's Run in May.
But she emphasized that the outings and her classes are typically open to both genders. "Anyone can join," she said, "anyone who has a passion for fitness."
