-The next concert in the 2010 Series at the Lindsay Concert Foundation will feature a Grammy-nominated act.
On Saturday, Dec. 5, the ARC Ensemble comes to the Glenn Crombie Theatre at Frost Campus in Lindsay.
In a press release, organizers said over the last year the ARC Ensemble has dazzle audiences and critics around the world, accumulating unanimously enthusiastic reviews and two consecutive Grammy nominations.
The ARC Ensemble is the ensemble-in- residence of Canada's Royal Conservatory of Music. Artists who will play at the performance include Benjamin Bowman and Marie Berard on violins, Steven Dann on viola, Bryan Epperson on cello, Joaquin Valdepenas on clarinet and David Louie and Dianne Werner on piano.
According to organizers, the ARC Ensemble has become one of Canada's leading cultural exports. It leads in the research and reintegration of lost musical masterpieces -in particular, the works of composers who were exiled by the Third Reich and marginalized after the Second World War, works which substantially augment the existing repertoire and challenge the public's conceptions of it.
During 2008 alone, ARC brought those works to audiences in London, Rome, Budapest, New York, Toronto and Washington, D. C., where the group made its debut at the Kennedy Centre.
ARC also fosters the creation of new compositions and develops creative associations with musicians outside the Western classical tradition, as well as artists from other disciplines.
ARC made its New York debut in 2003, performed in Sweden and the UK in November 2004 and toured China in the spring of 2006. Its first recording, "On the Threshold of Hope", is dedicated to the music of Mieczyslaw Weinberg and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2007 for Best Chamber Music Recording. It was followed by "Right Through The Bone -Chamber Music of Julius Rontgen -which garnered equally enthusiastic and a second Grammy nomination.
The show begins at 7:30 p. m., and tickets are available now at Kent Bookstore or by calling 878- 5625. Prices are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors (over 65) and $10 for students.
Louise Glenister of Lindsay Concert Foundation said the last concert by Guitar 8 was a sell-out and they hope to continue that success with this presentation.
