KAWARTHALAKES-Stephen King's in the city and we hope he doesn't find our towns horrific.

King -a communities in bloom judge, not the horror author -and co-judge Mario Fournier are putting the city through its paces as part of the communities in bloom 2010 national edition.

We are in the 50,001 to 150,000 population category and com-peting against the City of Medicine Hat, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent), the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (AB) and Whitby.

King, from Elmsdale, NS and Fournier, from Ottawa, arrived Sunday and leave on Wednesday.

Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organiza-tion committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsi-bility, beautification and to improving quality of life through community participation and a national challenge.

The results will be announced at the national awards cere-monies, hosted this year by Halifax Regional Municipality, on Oct 27 to 30.

The judges started the tour yesterday in Bobcaygeon, visiting Market Square, Kawartha Settlers' Village, Boyd Museum, Port 32 and Shea Park. They headed to Kinmount for a tour of the library, main street, Austin Sawmill Park and a kayak tour. They went on a boat tour of Balsam and Cameron lakes and the Rosedale locks. They then headed to Fenelon Falls to see Garnet Graham Park, Maryboro Lodge, the museum, chamber of commerce, and Lock 34.

Today they are off to Omemee to see Coronation Hall and gar-dens and the town clock, Windy Ridge Conservation Area and then heading back to Lindsay, for a look at the college, Wilson Fields, Logie St. park, the Trans Canada Trail and main street.
